After Sabbath Musing – 10/28/02
I love Sabbath.
I love to see the children rush down
to see the name of Hashem
to see them dance
to see them sing
I love the Sabbath.
A young boy in congregation rushed down with mine to see the name of Hashem. When the cantor pointed to the name the boy peered closely, being mindful not to touch the sacred parchment…and he said, “That looks like love.” Doesn’t it though? Doesn’t the very name of Hashem look like love?
I love the Sabbath.
And no I’m not talking about taking a spa day, or dropping the kids off with the sitter while you eat bon bons and watch soaps all day, I’m talking about the real deal the actual fuel that gets us all through the day, prayer and study.
Now, I’m the worst at this myself so I’m encouraging myself today too. As I’m about to get off my duff and turn of the computer and engage in an age old ritual of prepping for the Sabbath, I am reminded that I should start each of my days with the proper preparation of prayer and study.
As parents we can’t get so wrapped up in our children that we forget to take sustenance for ourselves. We must eat, hydrate, exercise but we must tend to our spiritual needs foremost.
Proverbs 31:17 – She gathers her strength around her, and throws herself into her work.
How do we gather our strength, a good night’s sleep is beneficial but it will not outlast 3 major meltdowns and a scream-fest all before lunch. To draw on the strength that sustains we must turn to G-d of all creation, Exodus says that G-d is our strength and our salvation (15:2). Take a moment find a short devotional online and recharge.

My fav online Bible right now is www.biblestudytools.com They have the CJB and the NASV and you can read your choice of translation in parallel.
Friday was rough. Ephriam had a bad morning. Lot’s of screaming and tantrums. The afternoon was only slightly better, with tantrums and running away. Friday’s are hard for me anyways. I need to cook and prep for the Sabbath and keep all the kids on track for school, cleaning and what have you.
Just after Sabbath dinner I broke down, it was memories of my Grandma that triggered it, but it was three weeks of struggling with Ephraim that led to it. After arguing with my more than helpful husband over how to fix it, he told me that we needed to take a break with Ephraim school work. He suggested that if I took a week off that it would get my head back in the game but that it would also benefit the other children in that I wouldn’t be so run down. It took me a second, but I agreed that I should take a bit of a break and work on getting my head straight and my house clean(which helps so much in my mental health:))
I’m going to give it a try this week and see, I think that if nothing else it will help me, I just hope a bit of break helps Ephraim too, maybe he’s burnt out too.
After Sabbath Musings – 4/1/12
Okay so this week yet again has been slow in the online world. I can’t explain it but I have had no interest in writing or even checking in on Facebook or my email. I start at it for a few then move on, so odd for me. I am not getting much else done, well that’s not true, I have been reading a lot, I have been sitting on the children trying to weed out some bad behaviors, I’ve been pretending that Pesach isn’t this Friday and I am still trying to figure out this new every kid wants to go in three different directions out side, cause its spring thing.
Bobby got me this trilogy of Amish novels for our anniversary, they were awesome, I tore through them so fast! The neighbors, who ROCK! watched the kids so we went out to dinner. The food was subpar and the waiter was lacking, but the company was pleasant so we had a great time.
I planned on having a container garden and started my seedlings indoors. I acclimated them to the weather and transfered them to the pots, within the week the squirrels ate them all up! I am trying to keep them away with red pepper flakes, and will be buying some chicken wire to create some cages for them.
Oh and Bobby made his 5, that’s SGT Holland to all you enlisted folks, lol. Which means I have to take some clothes in for new patches and get his dress blues redone, good thing he already has the pants 🙂 The neighbor wanted to know if Bobby would be getting a raise in his allowance, lol! uh no! *snicker*
